Position Summary:

We are seeking a Senior Research Associate with a strong background in molecular biology to join our Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) team within CST’s Antibody Development Core. This group plays a vital role in our antibody discovery and development processes. The successful candidate will join a dynamic and collaborative group whose role is to drive our monoclonal antibody discovery pipeline and implement new methodologies that advance our monoclonal antibody discovery capabilities. This individual will focus on cellular and molecular biology techniques like primary cell isolation, flow cytometry, and next generation library preparation and sequencing. They will aid in the development of our antibody discovery pipeline by evaluating leading edge technologies and techniques and sponsor their implementation.

Responsibilities:

• Isolate and stain various cell types from tissues
• Perform flow cytometry using established assays
• Flow cytometry analysis using FlowJo software
• Preparation and sequencing of next generation sequencing (NGS) libraries using robotic liquid handling systems
• Sequencing on Illumina’s MiSeq
• Sample tracking and data analysis
• Maintaining accurate and complete laboratory notebooks in accordance with CST policy, and for maintaining all electronic records in CST’s product development systems (PDP, PLM, JIRA, etc.)
• Establishing and regularly updating SOP documentation for all relevant processes
• Develop and optimize NGS library preparation and sequencing
• Proactively aid in the development of our antibody discovery pipeline by continuously seeking, championing, and evaluating techniques and opportunities that will improve the quality, efficiency, or scalability of our workflow
• Independently identify, analyze, and troubleshoot technical issues relating to NGS library preparation and sequencing

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in a biological science or related degree (e.g. molecular biology, cell biology, biochemistry or biotechnology)
• 3-5 years relevant research laboratory experience in academia or industry
• Proficiency basic laboratory techniques (e.g. sterile techniques, buffer preparation, pipetting, etc)
• 2+ years direct experience in molecular biology techniques (e.g. qPCR/RT-PCR, DNA/RNA extraction, DNA quantification)
• 1+ years hands-on experience in next generation sequencing (NGS) library preparation and sequencing ideally on Illumina’s platforms
• Demonstrated ability to recognize and resolve basic problems encountered in a standard operating procedure
• Excellent time management and attention to detail
• Strong organizational and communication skills (written and oral)
• Ability to independently design, execute, and analyze scientific experiments
• Natural curiosity with an ability to adapt to changing work processes and environments
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment

Preferred Skills:

• 1+ years direct experience in flow cytometry
• Previous experience working with automated liquid handlers
• Motivated to be a key contributor on exciting projects
• Demonstrates ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
• Proven ability to work in a high-throughput and fast-paced environment
