Position Summary

We are seeking a talented and highly motivated leader with a passion for big data, artificial intelligence, software development and life sciences to join CST as Director of Bioinformatics. This position reports to the Sr. Director of Research and leads a fantastic department of around 10 scientists, data engineers, software developers, and computational biologists. This department plays a key role in antibody research, omics research, scientific initiatives including PhosphoSitePlus, target selection and CST’s data-driven focus on providing actionable analytics and insight to key business questions related to CST products, customers, and business strategy.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a strong research team consisting of three groups including Bioinformatics Data Engineering, Bioinformatics Software Engineering, Computational Biology
  • Direct the design, development, implementation and maintenance of all data-driven efforts at CST to translate big data into biological knowledge and business insight
  • Direct the implementation of new software and tools for the integrative analysis of complex data
  • Lead the development of PhosphoSitePlus (phosphosite.org) – the world’s most comprehensive resource for post-translational modifications
  • Collaborate internally to build strong relationships within the research group and with other departments including Development, IT, Marketing and Sales, and externally to develop scientific collaborations and publish

Qualifications

  • PhD in Data Science, Bioinformatics, Computer Science or a related quantitative field
  • 5+ years of experience with big data after PhD training
  • Leadership experience in managing a scientific team
  • Deep understanding of machine learning, artificial intelligence and statistics
  • Significant experience in analysis of big data using R, Python or equivalent
  • Experience with data engineering and database management
  • Experience working with large-scale genomics, transcriptomics and proteomics datasets
  • Understanding of cell signaling and post-translational modifications

Preferred Skills/Experience:

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively within cross-functional teams
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to effectively communicate machine learning and statistical insights to a broader audience
  • Experience with graph databases, Kubernetes, and AWS
  • Experience working with enterprise reporting systems and data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Google Analytics)
  • Experience with web analytics
