Company Overview

Cell Signaling Technology, Inc. (CST) is a worldwide leader in the development and commercialization of antibodies, assays and research tools. As a company of scientists for scientists, we have developed PTMScan®, a technology to discover protein post-translational modifications, P hosphoSitePlus®, an online resource for investigation of post-translational modifications, and XMT® technology, a proprietary method to develop exceptional monoclonal antibodies. We are fully committed to developing new research tools to help define the mechanisms underlying cell function and disease, thereby broadly accelerating progress in biomedical research and medicine.

Position Summary

We are seeking a Laboratory Assistant who will work as part of our Validation Systems Core (VSC) team, which serves as a centralized resource for the Product Development organization. The mission of the Validation Systems Core (VSC) is to provide a single source of well-characterized, high quality cells and lysates to the Product Development organization to enable accelerated product development cycle times. Additionally, the VSC serves as a center of innovation for the culture, treatment, lysis, and storage of cell lines. These team members are expected to continuously evaluate leading edge technologies and techniques, and to sponsor their implementation in their work.

  • Provide support to the VSC by performing tasks which enable team members to streamline daily work (e.g. media preparation, TC room stocking, mycoplasma testing of cells, DNA extraction for cell line authentication)
  • Provide backup support to the Development Materials Management Core (DMMC) by performing material delivery tasks when needed
  • Assist in maintaining an accurate inventory of cell banks for new and existing cell lines, including passage number and origin
  • Setting standards for good tissue culture practices including providing proactive, daily care of cell lines, when needed
  • Conducting periodic cleaning and decontamination of Core Tissue Culture lab(s) and quarterly cleaning of biosafety cabinets
  • Maintain accurate and complete electronic records in CST’s product development systems as appropriate
  • Responsible for following established protocols for all practices including the culturing of cell lines, lysate preparation, and documentation
  • Conduct physical inventories and maintain accurate records
  • Responsible for routine quality testing of newly prepared lysates and aliquoting of material
  • Understand VSC and related product development processes and operating mechanisms in order to help identify and recommend opportunities for continuous improvement
  • May assist in preparing and maintaining an inventory of commonly used lysates
  • May work with and be exposed to hazardous chemicals and materials, Universal Precaution level pathogens, biohazardous human/animal tissue, cells, and fluids, and manual pipetting

  • Associate degree in biological science
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment
  • Computer experience including working knowledge of MS Office Suite and Google

Preferred Skills/Experience

  • Minimum 1-year professional work experience in a lab environment
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Team-oriented mindset
  • Strong communication skills (both oral and written)
  • Proven ability to multi-task effectively
  • Bachelor’s degree in a biological science preferred (e.g. molecular biology, cell biology, biochemistry or biotechnology)
  • Previous experience with a Laboratory Inventory Management System (LIMS) such as CoreLIMS, workflow management tools such as JIRA, and other CST-specific databases
  • Possess a basic understanding of the antibody validation process and how to progress an antibody product through the pipeline
  • Basic working knowledge and understanding of the utilities of a lab informatics management system (LIMS) and other workflow tools
